AI and Education

Like any other field, education is evolving and students’ needs are changing according to the changing world. With the changing world, new fields in education are coming and the conventional educational system is no more applicable. How can AI and education go hand in hand with evolving educational needs?

AI, machine learning, and robotics are influencing every dimension of life. How we learn and how our future generation will equip themselves with knowledge will depend on technologies and inventions taking place every day. There are many ways we can use Artificial intelligence in education. In this article, we will provide insight into how artificial intelligence is used in education?

AI and Education

The association between AI and Education includes three regions: learning with AI (for example the utilization of AI-fueled instruments in homerooms), finding out about AI (its advances and procedures), and getting ready for AI (for example empowering all residents to all the more likely get the possible effect of AI on living souls). The future objective is to contribute towards mainstreaming both the human and specialized parts of AI into preparing programs for school understudies.

How is artificial intelligence used in education?

AI is used in education to improve performance in the classroom. The use of AI in education can be traced back to the 1950s when researchers attempted to create a computer-based tutor for students.

It helps teachers with grading and lesson planning. AI can also be used to monitor student progress and understand how they learn best.

AI is being used to create personalized lessons for students based on their needs, interests, and skill level. This ensures that students are not only learning what they need to but that they are also enjoying the process of learning.

Examples of artificial intelligence in education

The use of AI in education is still in its infancy stage. However, it is expected that the future will see more implementations of AI in the field and this will bring about many benefits for both teachers and students.

AI is playing a more and more important role in education. One of the most common uses for AI in education is to help students with their homework. There are many examples of this being done, but one example is that AI can be used to answer questions from math problems. Another example of AI in education is when students use it to create presentations or other assignments. This can be done by using an AI assistant that has pre-formatted templates for these projects and then guides the student through the process with prompts and feedback. AI tools are also being used to help teachers monitor students' progress, which can lead to better learning outcomes for all involved.

Some examples of AI in education are

1.      Lesson planning

2.      Homework & Presentations

3.       School administration

4.      Customized learning

5.      Language learning

6.      Assessment

7.      Academic research

There are many other examples of AI in education used by students and teachers.

Artificial intelligence tools in education

There are mainly 5 more discussed tools used by students and teachers to improve learning and overall class management.

Gradescope

Gradescope is an app that educators can use to grade students' work. It is a free, easy-to-use app that allows the teacher to assign grades and easily track how the student did on different assignments. The assignments are automatically graded and they have a forum where they can talk to other teachers about what types of assignments they could give their students in the future.

Brainly

Brainly is a social media site that helps students with classroom questions. Students can discuss their assignments and can get support from their peers regarding their assignments. The solutions provided use AI and machine learning to give the best experience and results. It has also the feature of identifying spam and removing it. AI enables students to seek more suitable and customized solutions.

Duolingo

Duolingo is designed for English speakers to learn more than 30 languages, including German, Spanish, English, Italian, French, Chinese and more. This free language app works well on both desktop and mobile devices. Duolingo itself is a free app but has membership fees for Duolingo plus.

AI is used by Duolingo when taking tests for different languages. An adaptive testing system is used, when a student gives the answer, the more complex question is asked and when a student fails to respond, AI asks a straightforward question. AI also delivers personalized sessions according to the need of the user. It analyzes users' requirements and problems that user is facing and then prepares session accordingly.

Jill Watson

The AI-enabled virtual teaching assistant was introduced by the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2016. This Virtual helper is prepared on a thorough data set that is loaded up with students' inquiries in regards to the program, starting emails and the suitable answers from the instructors. At the hour of sending off, the exactness of Watson's responses was surveyed by a human. Afterward, Watson started to auto-answer the researchers' presentations and dull, repetitive questions alone.

Content Technologies, Inc

CTI (Content Technologies Inc.) is an artificial intelligence research and development company specializing in production automation, business process automation, instructional design & content application solutions.

Description Source: VentureRadar Research / Company Website

This AI advancement firm has fabricated an assortment of brilliant substance answers for secondary school and higher instructive levels. For example, Cram101, use AI to offer and make sense of reading material data into a more conceivable aide. This breakdown comprises outlines, valid/false activities, and multi-choice tests.

What are the disadvantages of artificial intelligence in education?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is being used in many areas to improve the quality of human life, such as education. It has a lot of advantages, but there are also some disadvantages to AI and education.

It replaces teachers

The biggest disadvantage of AI is that it replaces teachers in education. The education system is one of the most important parts of developing a country. The main point to develop a country is to make good students and teachers. AI will replace teachers at schools and universities. There will be no need for human teachers if artificial intelligence is implemented in education systems.

Teachers play important role in the life of education. AI tools also cannot motivate a student when he/ she is struggling with a certain subject or a concept. As AI automation is limited to only providing information, it is difficult for AI tools to understand what type of information would be most useful for each student.

It uses technology

AI is based on technology, so it needs internet and electric power to work properly. We know that many countries have no access to the internet and electric power due to financial problems, so they can not afford the technology needed by AI at schools and universities. Therefore, they will not be able to use artificial intelligence in their education system.

Risk of hacking

AI works with computers, so there is a risk of hacking by hackers that can get access to your data through these computers. Once your data is hacked, you will lose your privacy and security forever because once information gets into the computer world; it never disappears completely from it.

Conclusion

Today there is a trend of implementing AI and education in schools – this trend started a few years ago already. Some countries are already experimenting with AI in education and some are just planning the implementation of the advanced technologies. Future plans are to use AI as a part of teaching methods, administration, and learning evaluation.

AI is most certainly useful in education and has a big role to play in the future. However, just how big will depend on several factors. AI still has some kinks to work out, but I'm confident that we'll continue to see advances in this rapidly evolving field. Technologies like intelligent tutors and adaptive learning are predicated upon AI, and they're all set to improve with further advances in AI research. And as society continues to evolve, we'll probably see even more uses for AI in education emerge as well.
